Taqueria El Barrio is a family run, traditional Sonoran style Taqueria. Sonora is a state in Northern Mexico, where one of our co-founder, Servio is from. Northern Mexico and Sonora are known for their handmade flour tortillas, and we take pride in our homemade tortillas de harina (flour tortillas). Our co-founders, Servio Garcia and Alex Saenz have been in the Boston restaurant scene for a combined 40+ years. Alex as chef and Servio as owner of some of Boston's best restaurants including Bisq and Bergamot.
The two joined forces to open Taqueria El Barrio while Alex was the chef of Servio's restaurant, Bisq, in Inman Square. Taqueria El Barrio opened it's first location on Comm Ave in Brookline in late 2019 serving authentic flour tortillas and traditional Northern Mexican tacos, quesadillas, salsas, etc. COVID quickly shuttered this location, but to keep our staff employed, we started selling our raw flour tortillas & salsa macha at many local grocers in the Boston area. Our retail tortillas gained a cult-like following, and we often hear of people driving 30+ minutes to go buy 6 packs of our tortillas to stock their freezers!
In 2020 after closing our Comm Ave location, we opened a location within the Time Out Market by Fenway. This store has been going strong ever since. We currently have locations in Portico Brewery in Somerville, the Charles Hotel in Cambridge and a truck at Trillium, Canton as well. Come visit and say hi!
